Diamond

—2010—

Diamond consists of a series of drawings in various sizes, forming together an inverted triangle or diamond shape. The models for these drawings were taken from the Facebook pictures of two young girls who granted me permission me to use their photographs. In the shift from the digital image to the manual gesture, a fictitious narration emerges between the images, as if they were telling a story, while in fact, they merely seek to highlight the parallelisms between the two Facebook profiles.

The shape of the triangle or diamond, which results from the arrangement of the drawings, refers to relationships as a set of imaginary lines between people that interact with each other – a network like the Internet. The process of transforming digital images into a manual gesture— weaving fine lines between them—intends to visualize the concept of relationship and the intimacy it implies. But do social media allow this kind of intimacy or are the hyper- edited photographs on social media a fiction in themselves?

Diamond opens these questions, highlighting the individual’s overexposure in social networks in which the image exceeds reality.
