A Cartography of Berlin

– 2022–

This project is a demographic representation of the city of Berlin. Each sculpture is the representation of each of its twelve districts, whose sizes correspond to the number of people living in them, just like a graph, according to UN statistics.

In the creation of each object, the shapes of birds' nests have been taken as inspiration and reference, analyzing the phenomenon of inhabiting. In this way, each sculpture has been constructed with collected and found materials within the city. This materials have been obtained through walks, with and in which each district has been not only explored, but also symbolically delimited. These routes are displaced through the poetics of each work, in circular and ovoid forms. Some materials were also received from the people living in these areas. The green areas were considered in the proportion of the sculptures as well.

The installation represents an objectual cartography of Berlin, being able to make a reading of the map of Berlin through these objects in space, placing the north of the city on the left side of the room, and the north above.
